Tan Thai is a bubbly woman. She almost always has a smile on her face, and as a result so do people around her. Even meeting her for the first, time you realize what a kind person she is. She is the perfect "auntie" among the Kuala Lumpur weavers.
Tan Thai first learned to weave from Salaam Wanita, but could not stay with it. She was grateful for the skill, and didn't want it to go to waste. So she decided to teach Foong Yee. Now several years later, Foong Yee is employing Tan Thai!
Joining Foong Yee's group has been a boon to Tan Thai. Since she is diabetic, she must be careful not to cut her hands. This means that cutting wire is out of the question. Fortunately, as part of the team, Tan Thai does not have to cut wire. Instead she takes care of other jobs such as rolling.
For Tan Thai, the most important aspect of Salaam Wanita is the sense of community that she has with the other weavers. Her daughter is working in the city central and so she does not have all the activity of raising a young child. She looks to her Salaam Wanita friends to keep her spirits high. She even goes to Foong Yee's house almost everyday!
